Virtual observation of the Victory Day of Bangladesh and seminar on “Good Parenting” was held by TORONTO BANGLA SCHOOL with HSDNI and BCS on 19th of December 2020.
An Art Competition for kids (Preschool to Grade 8) was arranged on the topic “VICTORY OF BANGLADESH”.
Doly Begum, MPP of Scarborough Southwest, Brad Bradford, City Councillor for Ward 19, Beaches-East York have attended and delivered speeches on the event theme.
Prof. Dr. Abdul Mannan Choudhury, Freedom Fighter and Vice-Chancellor, World University of Bangladesh, were the special guests of the virtual program. Dr. Choudhury shared his experiences on the background of the liberation war of Bangladesh and his involvement in making the decision related to the liberation war. After his speeches, he answered questions asked by the audiences.
Reciting poems, singing songs, dancing, telling stories, etc. were performed by the Toronto Bangla School Students, BCS after school program and others in the cultural activities, facilitated by Rafia Mokbul, Academic Advisor of the Toronto Bangla School, and Nasrin Islam, Teacher of Toronto Bangla School.
The program was started with the National Anthem of Bangladesh. Dr. Nasima Akter, Executive Director, BCS, and Chair of HSDNI and Mr. Jannatul Islam, Incorporation and Executive Director of HSDNI have facilitated the whole event. Board members and volunteers from BCS, HSDNI and Toronto Bangla School have participated while the parents of the children participation was really mention-able. President of the Toronto Bangla School president, Mr. Fakhruddin Ahmad, secretary Mr. Siddhertho Saha, Academic Advisor Rafia Mokbul, BCS seniors, and so on, presented their overview, followed by the speeches of the special guests.
Nuren Nawar, a youth volunteer of the Toronto Bangla School, shared the slide show of all Arts of the participants in the Art Competition in the meantime.
Parents and students including senior citizens attended the “Good Parenting” seminar in open discussion and sharing experiences and examples.
The names of the winners of the Art Competition were announced in the program. Fourteen participants participated in the Junior Group (Preschool to Grade 3), whereas 21 participated in the Senior Group (Grade 4 to Grade 8) in the Art Competition. Shehzeen Manha Chowdhury winned the 1st position, Tahmmeed Hasan and Afia Islam winned the 2nd position (duel), and Rehan Quader winned the 3rd position in the Junior Group of the competition. Among the 21 participants in the Senior Group, Salwa Mahbub, Sara Ahmed and Farah Mahnoor Sameeha got the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position in the competition.
The afternoon event was designed for specifically for the seniors which was moderated by Syed Shamima Ahmed, BCS after school coordinator. Memory boxes were featured by the seniors following by seniors performances. It was an wonderful day for the Bangladeshi people living in Canada and observed victory day of Bangladesh with the participants from Bangladesh, Canada, UK and other parts of the world.
Finally, Mr. Fakhruddin Ahmed, President of the Toronto Bangla School, thanked all the attendees, and Mr. Jannatul Islam concluded the program with the appreciation for the participants and with a expectation to a great Bangladeshi community in Canada who will be working for Bangladeshi language, culture and heritage.
Victory day is observed every year commonly all over the world by Bangladeshi people, and evaluated with great importance. Toronto Bangla School is committed to continue activities to teach children Bangla language and heritage in an entertaining and social environment along with celebrating and organizing related events and workshops to build a better world for Bangladeshi-Canadian children. Therefore, celebrating Victory Day should have a great impact on the young children of Bangladeshi-Canadian community, which should be continued in future to spread Bangla heritage and culture worldwide.
